Do you know a struggling artist?

A few years ago, BC Lottery Association decided to cut back on their funding to "not for profit" organizations in British Columbia. This decision brought the funding down from over $150K a year to less than $70K a year available to these worthy organizations. Among the hard hit not for profit organizations were all the small theatre companies and the arts organizations in the province. Many of them have had to close their doors. The grants and funding to young aspiring artists is no longer available for scholarships. This tsunami of cut-backs from the BC Lottery has left many of the Arts programs in BC "lying in its wake".

In an effort to help struggling artists and provide scholarships Raymond Chow has asked Christine Egerton Ball to assist him with his Art Auction Benefit for emerging artists. It is my privilege to have the opportunity to interview Christine on my show this morning!

Christine Egerton Ball has had an acting passion since childhood reciting poetry in costume to family and friends. Her first role in a play was at the age of 8 years at school. She has won awards and performed in many plays since that day.

Today Christine resides in Port Moody, BC. She is active  with the North Vancouver Community Players and Metro Theatre, Vancouver where she now helps work the "front end".

The funds raised from this auction will help Theatre BC's mandate to promote the development of theatre in professional adjudicated festivals, workshops, playwriting competitions, with awards for achievement for all aspects of theatre including recognition for outstanding long-term contribution of members and groups, plus student scholarships. Theatre BC is an associate member itself with several professional theatre organizations and agencies both provincially and federally.

Raymond Chow and some of the artists are donating paintings for partial tax receipts from Theatre BC. He has been painting since he was 5 years old and graduated from the Conservatory of Music at age 17 years. He has written a musical from an old book written by one of his ancestors in 1789 and has been very successful with his beautiful paintings. He now teaches piano and likes to support emerging artists.
